Sampson County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of 2000, the population was 60,161. Its county seat is Clinton.
History
The county was formed in 1784. It was named after John Sampson, who was the first register of deeds of Duplin County and the first mayor of Wilmington, North Carolina.
